CoBloWriMo 2017 - Day 3

Day 3: Extant Garment

This is one of my very favorite gowns.  Its not often that simple, solid colored silk gowns are saved but it’s certainly my preference!  The gown’s simplicity is absolutely gorgeous and it's the original inspiration for my current project.

This is from Colonial Williamsburg’s collection.  Quote from their online collection,

“Gown, pink-lavender lustring polonaise

1770-1785
Origin: England (probably)
OL: 65"; Waist: 28"; Fabric width: 23 5/8" Shoulder width at back, 14"; Skirt circumference 117 1/2”

Silk lustring, linen lining.
Museum Purchase
Acc. No. 1983-233

Lavender faded to pink silk "lustring" gown with edge-to-edge closed bodice, fitted back of the type called "English back", and open skirt to be drawn up in Polonaise style. Bodice front has slightly squared neckline trimmed in gathered and pinked self fabric; bodice closes down center front witout a stomacher. Sleeves are edged in pinked self fabric; sleeves have evidence of original tucks on inside of elbow. Bodice and sleeves lined in linen (somewhat coarser in sleeves). Skirt made of five widths of fabric, seamed at selvages, pleated to bodice in 1/2 inch pleats. Linen tapes inside skirt are tied together for drawing up in polonaise.”
